Muirgen

Senchán's son, who sits at Fergus's gravestone, chants to it, and gets the whole Táin from the ghost.

Overview

Muirgen sits down at Fergus mac Roich's gravestone at Enloch in Connacht while Emine and the others go looking for a house for the night. He chants a poem to the stone as though it were Fergus himself, and a great mist forms around him so that for three days and nights he cannot be found. Fergus comes to him with brown hair, a green cloak, a red-embroidered hooded tunic, a gold-hilted sword and bronze blunt sandals, and recites the whole Táin from start to finish.

If this your royal rock / were your own self mac Roich / halted here with sages / searching for a roof / Cuailnge we’d recover / plain and perfect Fergus.
