Diarmait
Conchobor's son, who in one version comes south to tell Medb and Ailill to give back the cattle, and dies in a javelin exchange with Maine.
Overview
In the second account of how Bird Pass got its name, Diarmait comes south out of Ulster after the men have risen from their pangs. He asks for a horseman to be sent out, says that if Maine comes he will go to meet him, and sends word through him that Medb and Ailill must set the cattle free, make good the damage, and bring their bull to fight the bull in the east, as Medb promised. Medb will not have it; Diarmait and Maine exchange weapons, each throws his javelin at the other, and they kill each other. The text gives only the name Maine and does not say which of Ailill's sons he is.
