Friuch

Bodb's pig-keeper, named for a boar's bristle, who withers his friend's pigs and later becomes a bird, a stag, a maggot and a bull.

Overview

Friuch is named after a boar's bristle and is practised in the pagan arts. When Rucht brings his pigs south for the mast, he casts a spell so that they will not grow fat, and the year after Rucht does the same to his. They spend two years as birds of prey, two under water, then as stags, warriors, phantoms, dragons and maggots, and the text never says which name of each pair is his or which bull he became.

I’ll cast a spell over your pigs. Even though they eat this mast they won’t grow fat, while mine will.
