Nes
Also spelled: Ness
Mother of Conchobor, who sleeps with Cathbad because he is the only man near, and with Fergus to buy her son the kingship.
Overview
Nes is sitting outside Emain with her royal women when the druid Cathbad passes and tells her the hour is lucky for begetting a king on a queen. She sees no other male near and takes him inside, and carries the child for three years and three months until the feast of Othar. When Fergus mac Roich asks for her she gets a year's kingship of Ulster for her son in return, sets Conchobor and his household stealing from one half of the people to give to the other, and hands the warriors her own gold and silver.
Give my son the kingship for a year, so that they can call his son the son of a king.
