Munremur mac Gerrcinn
Also spelled: Munremar mac Gerrginn
Ulster champion from Moduirn, whose throwing contest with Cúroi fills the plain with stones and ends in a pact.
Overview
Munremur mac Gerrcinn comes from Emain Macha to help Cúchulainn and is stopped at Ard Roich opposite Cúroi mac Dáiri, who knows there is nobody in the armies who could withstand him. The two between them hurl great stones at each other from east and west until the plain is full of them, which is the origin of Mag Clochair, the Stony Plain. The armies ask them to be still; they make a pact, Cúroi goes home, and Munremur goes to Emain Macha and does not come again until the day of the battle.
‘The first in the fray: he advances like a devouring sea-wave over a little stream. A man of three cries. He falls on his enemies like a bitter doom,’ Fergus said. ‘Munremur mac Gerrcinn, from Moduirn in the north.’
